Where I'm From

I am from St. Martinville, Louisiana and I chose to attend the University of Louisiana at Lafayette because it is close to home, and I admire the beauty of the campus.

Where I Am

I am a chemistry major with a concentration in pre-pharmacy.

Where I'm Going

I will pursue a PharmD degree after graduating from UL Lafayette.

Conner Durand is a at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette creating his path on his own terms. He has a passion for helping others in need with their health and believes majoring in chemistry with a concentration in would be beneficial, "I chose to study chemistry with a concentration in pre-pharmacy because I wanted to be able to help others in need [regarding] their healthcare. This future profession in Pharmacy gives me the opportunity to do so and help guide others and their families to make good [healthy] choices,” he said.

Conner’s older sister graduated from UL Lafayette with a degree in Education so he was encouraged to follow her path. Conner believes UL Lafayette is preparing him for adulthood and life after college. He also cherishes the friendships he has built with others.

“My favorite part about studying at UL Lafayette is that I get to be around and study with some great friends.”

UL Lafayette offers courses that help students navigate their own journey. Conner has enjoyed learning about human anatomy and physiology. He said, “My favorite class specific to my major was Anatomy and Physiology I and II. It was also one of the most difficult classes I have taken, not because of the workload but because of how much time was taken to study. Even though it was difficult, I found that learning about the human body was [interesting] and important to my future career.” Even through difficult times, Conner has kept a positive attitude regarding his studies.

"My favorite part about the chemistry program at UL Lafayette is the faculty. The faculty in the Department of Chemistry are some of the nicest people I have spoken to."

Conner believes online classes can be just as impactful in comparison to in-person classes. He said, “My favorite elective was . I took this class as a freshman with a couple of friends. The entire class was online, but my professor made zoom meetings rather interesting, and I enjoyed learning about the history of some of the world's art.”

As Conner continues his education, he believes his current courses are setting him up for a bright future.

"I plan to further my education in a Pharmacy school either in or out of state. After graduating, I might even complete a residency. After graduating from Pharmacy school, I plan to utilize my degree by working as a pharmacist and assisting and educating families with their medications.”
