The University of Louisiana at Lafayette Quiz Bowl team earned its fifth consecutive state championship title at the Louisiana Collegiate Honors Conference recently.
Honors students from Dillard University, Grambling State University, Southern University, the University of Louisiana at Monroe and the University of New Orleans also competed.
The Honors College at Grambling State University hosted the conference.
Honors Program students who secured the title for UL Lafayette are Dominic Lloyd, a finance major from New Orleans; Hayden Torres, a biology and pre-medical student from Thibodaux, La.; Nick Rosato, an English major from New Orleans; Garett Robichaux, an industrial technology major from Lafayette; and Thomas Credeur, a mathematics major from Lafayette and president of the Quiz Bowl team. All are juniors.
UL Lafayette Honors Program students convened weekly in Judice-Rickels Hall to prepare for the tournament. They studied a wide variety of trivia questions, ranging from classical literature to theoretical physics.
Dr. Julia Frederick, Honors Program director, said the annual conference was the perfect place for them to put their knowledge to the test.
“LCHC is a time for students to share research, ideas, and ˿첥 with honors students from across the state. And I am always happy to see them bring home the Quiz Bowl trophy,” she said.
In addition to the Quiz Bowl tournament, the conference included research presentations, a talent show, discussion forums, and guest speakers.
The UL Lafayette Honors Program will host an additional tournament in the Student Union on April 16. It will invite teams from Louisiana State University, Rice University, the University of Louisiana at Monroe, Louisiana Tech University, and the University of New Orleans.
UL Lafayette began hosting the Cajun Quiz Bowl, an annual tournament for high school students from across Louisiana, in the 1960s. Its Honors Program founded its own competitive Collegiate Quiz Bowl team in 1997.
